Are you spending too much time in your head rather than in your real life? Do you feel like always overthinking? Well, You know it or not, Overthinking can be killing you from inside.

When you think too much, one of the following things happen:

  1. Either you think impossible (such as being a superhero, a ghost hunter, an invisible banker, a super hot partner.. this one is possible sometimes) or
  2. Most of the thoughts are negative things about yourself (which only you think about yourself, other people don’t care)overthinking killing your mind

You are one of those guys who is spending almost half a day in your thoughts? In your mind thinking What if?  Well, that’s a sign that you are fed up with people around you because the company you’re keeping is weighing you down rather than lifting you up. This teaches you sub-consciously to worry, stress, thinking and freaking out because you have set up your home in your mind and imagination.

You are most likely imagining things which you KNOW are never going to happen.. like being a superhero:) …. well I got news for you; It’s not gonna happen, at least not yet. You can try to get bitten by a radioactive spider but you won’t become spiderman; I can guarantee you that.

Do you know that 99% of your thoughts are almost useless? These thoughts take up your brain-power and stop you from doing something productive with your life. As William James put it best:

“A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.”

All my life I’ve been obsessed with practical things. Philosophy, knowledge, books, work and practical advice.

That idea comes from Pragmatism, a philosophical tradition that started in the 19th century in America. Charles Sanders Peirce, who was a Harvard professor, is considered as the Father of Pragmatism.

But William James, who defined the philosophy. About thoughts, worry, and stress William James say:

“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”

A mind is a tool which is supposed to work for you, not against you. If you cannot control your mind, you’ll also start saying:

I can’t help but think these things.

C’mon, do you believe that your mind is powerful than you? that you can’t control your thoughts? No, it isn’t. It is just doing these things to keep you away from the things you HAVE TO and MUST do, just to prove it’s powerful than you.

Controlling your Overthinking mind to avoid killing it

Controlling your thoughts is a Skill and like any other skill, it can be developed with constant practice. In other words, I want to say that

YOU have the ability to control what you think. Or, you can choose not to think.

Believe me, controlling your thoughts in one of the most… no actually the TOP-MOST skill you can acquire. Just think; from morning till now how many thoughts came to your mind and how many of them were useless and silly things. I guarantee, more than 80% thoughts would be useless. Now just think, if instead of thinking you would have done something productive, you would’ve been one step forward from where you are right now.
If you are constantly thinking, then your mind is not trained yet. You must get out of your head. Also, you’ll be missing out on life if you spend so much time in your head. Did you notice the sunshine this morning when you woke up? OR the raindrops? Did you feel the texture of your cereals? Did you notice the smell of your coffee?

If your answer is no, you need to get out of your head. Stop thinking and start feeling.

Thinking again How to train your Mind?

That’s a good thinking. The answer is Awareness.

It starts from being or making yourself Aware when it happens. Every time you start drifting off, just shake it off and become aware of it. Observe your brain. Step outside and just observe the crazy shit you’re thinking about.

Don’t judge yourself. Don’t think you’re stupid. If you do that, you’ll be thinking again. Here’s what you can say:

Ah that’s a cute thought. Now let’s get back to reality.

Are you back to the real world? Can you feel your the letter’s on the screen? Hey, you there? Don’t just look and read sub-consciously. Try to understand the concept I was telling till now and think how are you going to apply this to your life.

Great. You’re now utilizing your mind, and not the other way around. Now, keep using that brain of yours and don’t let IT use you.
